Oct. 22nd, 2021 11:45 pmFirst and foremost:
Where to find me: Here, obviously. I'm merriman over on AO3 and merrimanlyon on Discord. I like to keep things as consistent as possible.
Thank you for offering something I requested! Yuletide truly is one of my favorite things and I'm always so thrilled to see what someone else has in mind for the bitty little (and maybe not so bitty) fandoms I've requested.
Secondly, let's talk generalities: (this bit stolen from previous years' letters)
When it comes to rating, I am not picky. I'll be just as happy with a gen story as with smut and vice versa. Don't try and force a sex scene into a story if it's just not going there for you and don't try to keep it all-audiences if things are heating up. As well, I am perfectly good with slash, femslash, het, poly of any type, when it comes to relationships and pairings. Write what works for the characters and for you so long as it doesn't hit one of the DNWs below.
I am such a sucker for backstory and continuing stories, seeing what happened before we met the character(s) or after the end of the canon. Missing scenes are great too, but you can always get me with some pre or post-canon.
I love angst in stories, but I also like my angst to be resolved by the end of the story. I'm not asking for everything to be super happy funtime with kittens and roses and party balloons, but I'd like some resolution to whatever problem comes up.
As for my DNW list, here goes:
Non-con/dub-con/rape
Pregnancy
Kidfic
Mpreg
ABO
Incest
Underage sex
Cannibalism (of the sexual and non-sexual varieties)
Sex involving bodily fluids other than the norm, and human waste of any kind
In fact, please keep any sex on the non-kinky end of things
Non-canon character death
I'm good with different POVs, but I'd prefer to get plain prose as a format - I'm not into IF, video, poetry, drabble sets, etc. for these requests.
Thirdly, now for specifics:
1. Arcade Spirits (Visual Novel)
Official website for the game
TVTropes page for the game
Official twitter - has some teasers about an upcoming sequel and character Q&As
Characters: Iris, Donna Michaels, Polybius
Why Do I Love This: This game is utterly charming and sweet and hilarious and I don't think I could possibly love it more than I do. Every time I try to think of my favorite character, I can't narrow it down because they all have such wonderful stories that get told through the course of the game. I love that the whole point of the game is friendship, but that as sappy as it might have been, the humor keeps it from ever being too maudlin.
Request: I love everything about Arcade Spirits, but hands down my favorite chapter is the one where you meet the Donna avatar in the Polybius cabinet. I would love to see more about how that came about, whether Donna is actually in there, if anyone can get her out somehow (perhaps Iris?), and just what Polybius is intending to do with her and with anyone else it lures into playing. Please, also, if you want to focus on just one of the characters, go for it.
Additional Prompts:
* Donna's earlier life and career
* An AU for Donna where she escapes the cabinet
* Hamza encounters another Polybius cabinet.
* Iris accidentally orders the wrong pizza bagels.
2. Logan's Run (1976)
The movie on archive.org
Characters: Logan 5, Francis 7
Why Do I Love This: This was one of the earliest depictions of a sci-fi dystopia that I remember encountering outside of books. I love the idea that after a period of time history is just... gone. There's no records and no older people, so there's nothing to tell anyone in the domes that there's any other way to live. But that's its eventual downfall, because they've forgotten what they've forgotten, so there are things they don't even know to be on the lookout for.
Request: The dynamic between Logan and Francis is one of my favorites: They start out as friends, both on the same page, both doing the same job, but there's definitely a rivalry there too. When Logan gets his assignment and goes rogue, Francis questions what's going on, of course. I'd love to see more exploration of their friendship, either before the events of the movie or after. I'm also curious about the position they hold in the society. As Sandmen, they're somewhat detached from the normal social life in the city as we see it. How did they join up? Was it at the same time? Does that detachment make them closer or is it isolating? I'd just love to see more about them in general.
Additional Prompts:
* Logan and Francis' first chase
* Francis is Francis 7, whereas Logan is Logan 5. Did Logan know an earlier Francis?
3. The Prisoner (1967)
Prime Video has the series streaming right now in the US
Characters: Number Six, Number Forty-Eight
Why Do I Love This: What a weird fucking show. I've always loved how slightly unhinged everything is in the Village, and how most of the people there just seem to run with it. I love the ever-changing Number Two position. I love Rover. And most of all I love that there's an ever-present attitude from Number Six that this is all a game he WILL eventually win. My very favorite episode is Hammer Into Anvil, followed closely by the first, last, and penultimate episodes.
Request: I didn't nominate this fandom, but it was in the clarifications post multiple times because there were two different Number Forty-Eights in the show. I don't believe it was ever clarified but I'm interested in the one from Fall Out, AKA The Kid from Living in Harmony. If you offered the character with the other Number Forty-Eight in mind, please feel free to ignore that character request and focus on Number Six. If you offered the one I'm interested in, awesome! You're welcome to run with him solo or him and Number Six.
Additional Prompts:
* Tendi gets some spare time with Dr. T'Ana (maybe more rock climbing?)
* Tendi gets to go back and actually visit the Adashake Center on Orion
* Oh no, pheromones!

I'd love to know more about this character. We don't really see him much prior to Fall Out, and then there he is, escaping alongside Number Six and Number Two. What is it about him that got him to where he is when we see him in Fall Out? What does he do once he's out? Does he see the others again? If so, how does that go? Does he ever try to return and see what happened to the Village? Do they find him again? If you're focusing instead on Number Six, I've got similar questions about post-Fall Out life.
Additional Prompts:
* Numbers do seem to change every so often. There has been another Number 48, other Number 2s. What happens to the previous villagers with those numbers? Do they ever meet each other?
* Number 48's arrival at the Village
* Number 6 and Number 48 team up to confound the new Number 2 without ever seeming to come into contact with one another
4. Star Trek: Lower Decks (Cartoon)
Streaming on Paramount+
Characters: D'Vana Tendi
Why Do I Love This: Look, I'm a lifelong Trekkie and I am also a garbage queen. I love me some self-referential humor and who better to poke fun at something than the fans themselves? This show is so clearly made by people who love and adore Star Trek and it's full of deeeeeeeep cuts that crack me up. It's also surprisingly heartfelt and serious at times, which balances out the goofiness and hijinks.
Request: Tendi! Oh my goodness, how I love and adore her. I'm so pleased that we got a little more of a glimpse into her background in season 2, with her and Mariner visiting the Orion pirate outpost. Mistress of the Winter Constellations? Please, PLEASE, backstory for that? Lower Decks is so goofy so much of the time, but then it goes and does some really interesting worldbuilding and serious emotional stuff. Tendi's feelings about being Orion and the stereotypes that still permeate the culture around her are genuinely presented. I'd love backstory for her, yes, but also with the understanding of her present character and where she's at now. Or, you know, go full goofs and give me something ridiculous with Tendi dealing with something like the ridiculous Barclay de-evolution thing from TNG where she's the only one immune to it on the ship and has to save the day WITH SCIENCE!
