merrimanI have read HP7. Now I have thoughts.
1. Okay, this is going to sound a little crazy but hear me out. Fred is not dead. Fred, like Westley, Rawhide and Duke Roger, only appears to be dead. In actuality Fred has been hit by a particularly nasty hex which I'm certain George will work tirelessly to reverse. Right.
Now that that's out of the way -
2. I have been saying since book 1 that Dumbledore is pulling all the strings and not nearly as goody goody as he appears. HAHA I AM SO RIGHT I USE CAPSLOCK! The whole "you have to find it out on your own" thing was a set-up to get the horcruxes lined up for the kill. For some reason that makes me cackle with glee.
3. Remus and Tonks dying? Eh, my ship was already canonically sunk. I think I can bend the canon into a fanon I like and not worry about it overmuch. And? Harry's got James, Lily, Sirius and Remus with him when he goes off to Die Heroically. See? They're together! Foursome FTW!
4. Neville is a badass motherfucker. Neville needs a special BAMF wallet now. Made of mokeskin.
5. Seriously, Albus/Grindlewald ill-advised summer fling of doom. I needs it.
6. Also, much as I appreciated the massive amounts of ass kicked by Molly Weasley, Hermione, Ginny and Neville's awesomely iron-pantied gran, does it not seem like a bit of Rowling going "See? I could kick your asses, all of you. but since I already have all your money I don't have to."
7. I'm not so much fussed over what was IN the epilogue as I am at how fucking short it was. Honestly, J.K., could you at least have gone back and added one or two things? Like maybe one-eared!George? Or perhaps the annual public flogging of Umbridge that I'm sure Shacklebolt instated to remind folks what happens to bitches who cross Harry Fucking Potter?
8. How glad am I that something was actually done with the House Elf plot? SO glad. I was never a fan of it but it makes it much better to stand if it has a point and all.
9. Come on, Slytherins! Where's the love?
10. I now have so much more faith in how I've written Lucius Malfoy in the past. Not in anything you'll find around this LJ but I have. And I wrote him as centered on making sure that the Malfoy family stayed INTACT because that is what's important to him. It all works.
