Today when I got to work my Monday morning coworker (a woman over twice my age who normally treats me like a small child playing dress-up) said to me:

"Did you watch that new scifi show? On BBC America? It looked really good!"

And I replied:

"You mean Torchwood?"

And she said:

"Yes! Did you see it?"

And I said:

"No, I don't get BBC America."

And while I know that I could get any given episode of the show without much trouble (and no, I still haven't seen it) I will never ever admit to her that I have. Because when I do break down and watch it I know it will be a fannish obsession sort of thing. And the last thing I want is to mix my work with my fannish obsessions.

HP comes too close as it is. Thank goodness no one else at work watched Highlander.

It's certainly not what I expected her to ask about!

But I have so many pretty obsessions already!

I will watch eventually. I just need to get past the "Everyone's talking about it and hyping it - HIDE!" instinct.

Yeah. I'm glad I got into the new Who and Torchwood before eeeeveryone on my flist was talking about it all the time, or I never would have watched it. As it is I generally avoid most of the fannish stuff produced by my friends, despite the fact that I watch the shows, love the shows, and play the characters in RPs.

I just get over-hyped on some things. I mean, I avoided The Matrix for a year because I was working in a video store and every single customer would say "Oh! Have you seen The Matrix?! IT'S SO AWESOME!" Same with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

I just need to come to it on my own.

Yeah. I mean, I was abroad when LOST started and all I heard was OMG IT'S AWESOME and had no intention of watching it.

And then I let three of my friends at school convince me to mainline the DVDs and I fell in love.
